Our History

Growing Strong Since 1969.

In 1969 we began installing ‘under dash’ units in a workshop in Pirie St, Adelaide.

Car Airconditioning was very new back then, and almost unheard of in a family or a business car. However its popularity grew and in 1976 Highgate opened a workshop at Kent Town, Adelaide, and began wholesale distribution soon after.

A second workshop was opened in Edwardstown, Adelaide in 1979 and two years later a third workshop was opened in Gilbert St, City, Adelaide with a new distribution warehouse alongside.

During the 1980’s and 1990’s the distribution business continued to grow, and Highgate also purchased a vacuum forming plant and began manufacturing its own integrated units.

In 1996 a new warehouse and office was purpose built at Richmond, Adelaide with the Gilbert St property retained for the workshop and manufacture of specialised units for ambulance and low temperature installations. In 2001, operations were moved to Richmond except for ambulance installation which moved to a new Tasmanian facility.

Late 2016 a new purpose built warehouse and office was completed – this features modern warehouse systems 12m high racking and narrow-aisle forklifts and state of the art offices and facilities.”

An interesting journey, and one that has always been based on a dedicated interest and in depth knowledge of the automotive airconditioning industry.
